A weekend in Brugge, Belgium

This old medieval city, Brugge, is one of the most underrated places in Europe. I wouldn’t even have known about it, had it not been a recommendation by an Italian Chef (I have yet  to pop by to say thank you, and I should).

It is just a quick 3 hour train ride away from Amsterdam, and it has won me over this winter as we had the chance to spend a couple of days visiting. This city may be small, but it is packed with a lot of sights and attractions within walking distance around the old town. Pegged as the Venice of the North, its well-preserved medieval buildings and lively squares, makes it a very enchanting city to explore.

Where We Stayed

Our Airbnb is just perfectly located in a quiet residential area near the city centre of Brugge and is also within walking distance from the main train station! This Scandinavian designed apartment also comes with kitchen essentials, Netflix and Wifi, everything you need to feel at home.

Things to Do

• Take a boat tour down the canals
• Eat some french fries with curry ketchup
• Scale the Belfry Tower of Brugge

• Eat loads of Belgian Chocolate (My recommendation from Julie’s)
• Have some Belgian Waffles

• Find some Windmills
• Visit the Basilica of the Holy Blood
• Bike around the Old Town
• Stroll along the colourful Markt (Ginger bread looking buildings, great place for instagram!)

• Look at Lace
• Stroll through Minnewater Lake (Lake of Love and Lovers Bridge)

Visiting Brugge felt as if I was in an open-air museum. I mean, the city center is a UNESCO cultural heritage, a masterpiece filled with a vibrant atmosphere.

If you’re looking to visit a little fairy-tale medieval town over the Christmas holidays, Brugge is where you should be. Picture cobbled lanes and dreamy canal links flooded with the city’s stunning lightings at night. Whether you’re here during the spring when the flowers are in full bloom, or during the winter season, like I did, you’ll be amazed by the magnificent town.
